PTO Newsletter - February 2023

Hello Sol Feinstone Families,

Spring will be here before we know it! We have lots more fun planned this year and are also already starting to plan for the 2023-24 school year. Read on to learn what's going on in our school community and be sure to mark your calendar and join the fun.

Here are some updates from our February PTO meeting:

  • Thanks to our Give Back Committee, the homeroom parents and all who supported our February service project. In conjunction with the class Valentine's parties, the students made hygiene kits, including hand decorated cards. We donated over 650 hygiene kits to Cradles to Crayons!
  • Congrats to the cast and crew of Moana, Jr. And, thank you to Mrs. Leigh and all the staff and volunteers that offered support. The show was incredible!
  • The Sweetheart Dance was a huge success, with over 550 tickets sold. There were lots of smiles and fun!
  • Thanks to all the homeroom parents and class photographers for fun Valentine's Day parties.
  • Recent PTO contributions to the school include key chains for Soar ticket winners, flowers for the teachers and volunteers that worked tirelessly to bring Moana, Jr. to life, hand warmers for the staff working at arrival and dismissal and two assemblies.

SFE principal, Mr. Harlan, joined us and shared some updates, including:

  • We're gearing up for a busy spring.
  • The cast and crew of Moana was amazing. Thanks to Mrs. Leigh and the entire team and to all the students who worked so hard. We're so proud of you!
  • Construction is ahead of schedule! SFE construction is now set to be completed prior to the start of the 2024-25 school year. For the 2023-24 school year, the new bus entrance will be open, we will have a dedicated parent parking lot, the front entrance and hallway will be redone and many more classrooms will be ready. We will also have our new APR (cafeteria) and old gym back.
  • Thanks to all the parents who visited during Council Rock Education Week. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to see your students in their classrooms.

Please plan to join us for our next PTO meeting at 9:15 AM on Friday, March 3 in the gym/cafeteria. We will have a couple special presentations at this meeting, including an overview of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) from Mr. Harlan and team and a facilities update from our construction site manager and team.

We're also excited to invite you to our second evening PTO meeting this year. Especially if you can't make our monthly meetings, we encourage you to join us at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, March 8 in the gym/cafeteria to learn more about our school community and get involved.

SFE Science Fair

Thursday, May 18 - Register by Friday, March 24

Time for Science Fair!! Calling all great minds in 4th, 5th and 6th grade!   SFE PTO's 9th Annual Science Fair will be held on Thursday, May 18. 4th, 5th and 6th graders who register will present their projects to volunteer judges in the morning. All students, K-6, will enjoy a fun-filled STEAM afternoon experiencing science in action, including the poster presentations and a science scavenger hunt. It's a win-win event! They learn to love science by choosing whatever topic interests them, gain experience in research and presentation, and the whole school will enjoy learning from them! Parents of science fair participants can join the fun in the evening.

Students can work individually or in a group of two to three students. This year, we are encouraging groups, as our space is more limited due to SFE construction. Your student will receive plenty of support and guidance from the PTO science committee along the way. Any questions, just ask. Their proud smiles will make it worth it!
