PTO Newsletter - May 2022

Supporting our school community

We have all felt the loss of Jeffrey and Nelson Tini. They will both be dearly missed as friends and students of our Sol Feinstone community. In their memory, the PTO is working on the purchase and installation of a Buddy Bench by the kickball field.  We hope that the bench will be a wonderful reminder of Jeffrey and Nelson and the friendships they made at our school.

While we missed our May PTO meeting, we wanted to share some updates:

  • The PTO has been working hard to show our support and appreciation for our teachers and staff. Thanks to all the homeroom parents and volunteers who decorated every door in our school for our wonderful teachers and staff. We also provided breakfast, lunches and snacks during both the originally scheduled teacher appreciation week and our rescheduled teacher appreciation week.
  • Thanks to all who helped with Owlympics. It was unclear if the students or adults had more fun participating in all the activities that night. Definitely a fun time for all!
  • The raffle baskets were a huge success. They created a lot of excitement among the students and raised money for our school. Thanks to all who contributed and congrats to those who won a basket.
  • Upcoming PTO sponsored activities will include a book fair, t-shirts and water ice for field day on June 10.
  • The Sol Feinstone construction project appears to be on track with excitement building as students will get to use the new addition when they return at the end of August.

Please plan to join us for our next PTO meeting at 9:15 on Friday, June 3 in the SFE APR.

Announcements
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

When the decision was made to postpone the PTO planned events for the Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, the PTO continued to send in food items throughout the week including the planned May 5th luncheon for the teachers and staff at SFE. We have also rescheduled Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week for May 23-27. The PTO will provide snacks, flowers, coffee, and have sent out note forms to be completed, if so desired (Click here for the Thank You form) . We thought this was a nice way to express our gratitude to the Teachers and Staff at SFE.

If your student(s) wrote thank you notes for their teachers and haven't delivered them yet, please send them in on Wednesday, May 25.

Friday, May 27 is Teacher Appreciation Share Your Spirit Day. Students can dress like their teachers or wear something they love (favorite sports teams, favorite color, etc).

Book Fair

The PTO SFE Scholastic Book Fair will be held May 31- June 6. Just like last year, the book fair will be outside, so cross your fingers for nice weather! Students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during their library period.

Click here for information on e-wallets, volunteering and more

Some other important information to note:

-Extended after school hours for shopping will be Tuesday, May 31 until 6pm.

-Scholastic is experiencing supply issues so we are encouraging students to shop for what's in stock.

-E- wallet balances will not be credited back to the credit card account. All balances can also be spent at future fairs, Scholastic Book Clubs or anytime at the Scholastic Online Store. When a customer has an eWallet balance on their account, they must go into the eWallet using their email, as if they are setting up a new one. They can then click on ‘Fund with an eGift Card balance’. Funds will show up as an active eWallet for this fair.

-We will once again be asking if you’d like to round up your change. All For Books donations are a great way for us to earn even more for our school! Thanks in advance for your generosity!

Any questions please contact Jill Fithian.

Hootie's Hut

Thursday, June 2

Don't miss the final day of Hootie's Hut for the school year. Everything needs to go! Hootie's will be open during all lunches.

Since third grade will be on their field trip and miss the last day of Hootie's Hut, we will have something for them.

Field Day

Field Day is back - Friday, June 10. It will look a little different this year due to construction and limited space. The schedule of events is coming soon. Parents are welcome to attend and there will be some volunteer opportunities at the games. Field Day shirts will be provided by the PTO for all students and will be distributed on Thursday June 9. Please do not alter t-shirts prior to field day. The PTO is also sponsoring a water ice truck in conjunction with field day.

6th Grade Clap-off

Students and stuff will line the hallways to clap off our graduating sixth graders at 10:00 on Tuesday, June 14.

Welcome Back Graduating Seniors

Graduating seniors who are SFE alumni are invited back on Thursday, June 9 to celebrate and take a class picture. Graduates are asked to be mindful that school will be in session. Please arrive at 9:30. Class picture will be taken at 9:45.

A Message from SFE PTO President

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

April was a very busy and exciting month for our school.  The Harlem Wizards might not have resulted in a month of no homework for the kids but the game smashed previous records of ticket sales, raffle sales, and concessions.  My favorite part of the whole evening was seeing everyone on the court, singing and dancing, celebrating our community and having a wonderful time.  We are all part of this great community and when we come together, we not only achieve success, we have a LOT of fun!  We could not have done it without the hard work and dedication of my fellow committee members Nikki Khan, Margo Ferro, Mahesh Gopinathan, Kim Neale, Claire Radon, Danielle Terwilliger, Sandy Toner, and Ben Weldon. Thank you to Tricia Lentz for a beautiful team display that started at SFE and made it to CR South for the big game. A very special thank you to the Angelakis family for donating the beverages and to our parent volunteers Sara Bonstein, Grace Ciccimaro, Jordan Fried, Amanda & Paul Frake, Leslie Geib, Jennifer Egbert, Stacey Keeler, Kimberly Lantz, Nicolette Myslinksi, Kevin Ogborn, Jody Passanante, Ashley & John Shepardson, Katy Shuck, Greg Silvesti, Kristen Tormenti, and Wendy Nowicki, who all showed up and helped contribute to the event's enormous success. Finally, let's hear it one last time for the 2022 SFE Dream Team and cheerleaders, we really couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you to Nikki Khan, Rose Weldon, and our homeroom parents for putting together awesome raffle baskets, and all the parents that came in to sell and help fill out tickets for the Spring Raffle Baskets. I wish everyone could have heard the students cheering and their screams of excitement for their classmates and friends as Mr. Harlan announced the winners.

Thank you to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for another great Diversity Week. The family flags continue to decorate the front hall and the students enjoyed their grade level assemblies.

Thank you to Kate Casciano and Erin Martin for a fantastic, fun filled evening at the OWLympics. It's always a fun time when parents get matched up against the kids, especially when it includes dizzy bats, soccer, relay races, and so much more. Everyone had a blast even if some of us were a bit rusty on our dodgeball skills.

Thank you for all your support and I hope to see you at our last meeting on June 3rd!
